Testimonial

I have been overweight since I was 9 yrs’ old, and I have gone up and down in weight since that age, even though I have been very active most of my life. As a child I played outside a lot, and I played tennis in high school, and also did Jazzercise.  I became a Jazzercise instructor in 1993, taught for 12 years, retired; then I recertified in 2013 and taught for 2 more years, retired again; then recertified in November 2019.  It really is a passion of mine.  Don’t let the name fool you!  It’s a great workout with great music.  It combines HIIT with dance, Pilates, yoga, and strength training with a number of formats so it never gets boring!  I had also really gotten into running in my early-mid 20s.  My everyday runs were 10 miles for fun!  After an injury in 1997, though, my running days were numbered.  Over the past several years, I have gotten pretty bad arthritis in both knees and have had 2 arthroscopic surgeries on my right knee.  I currently have a torn meniscus in each knee.

Throughout all these years, I have struggled with my weight.  I have lost weight on my own by diet and exercise but had always managed to gain it back.  I have done NutriSystem (lost 50 lbs, but gained it all back very quickly).  I did Weight Watchers in 2015 and lost 40 lbs.  I moved from upstate NY to NC in 2016 and managed to keep most of the weight off for a while, but started putting some of it back on gaining back about 15 lbs.

I first heard of and saw Will on “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” when I lived in NY.  I was so intrigued by his ethics in not wanting to train someone to make money but really cared about how they performed and their dedication to doing what was required to be healthy inside and out.  It really impressed me when he “fired” his client because of her unwillingness to do what was necessary.  It wasn’t just about the money for him.  He really cared about her making herself better, but since she wasn’t willing to do what was needed, he let her go.

I had always wanted to work with a personal trainer but have always been embarrassed and self-conscious with my weight and inability to keep it off.  A friend of mine and I had talked about Will and how great it would be to be able to work out with him.  As a gift to me, this wonderful friend gave me 10 sessions with Will!

My journey with Will started in mid-February 2019.  I met with Will and explained my situation and how I have always really loved to exercise but am limited based on my knee issues.  I was so excited to work with him.  He felt like he could certainly help me lose weight and make my knees stronger.  Our first workout was everything I hoped it would be.  It was tough but fair, it made me sweat (which I love!!), and Will was so informative.  He gave me a meal plan to work with.  I was surprised with how different it was from everything I thought I knew about eating “right!”  I immediately started following his plan and lost 6 lbs in the first week.

I have been working with Will now for over two years and have learned so much, lost weight (31 lbs) and gained muscle and strength.  I’m at the lowest weight in my life and have been able to maintain it.  Will has always been so great about working with my limitations and helping me push harder and get stronger despite those limitations.  He is encouraging, caring and is always teaching me about how food and exercise affect my body.  I try every day to eat the way Will has taught me. When I first met Will, he explained that his meal plan was something that was sustainable and I could maintain forever and that’s what was important in whatever way a person chose to lose weight.

While I’m not always perfect (especially during Covid!), I KNOW what I need to do thanks to Will.  I honestly think about what I’m going to eat and why/how it will affect my body every single day.  I love working out with Will and appreciate so much his knowledge and patience in finding appropriate workouts and modifications for me due to my limitations and also through some minor injuries I have experienced in my time with him.  Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t take it “easy” on me and I love that!!

My goals include continuing my training with Will and to remain vigilant in trying to do my best to eat properly and continue getting stronger with his help and guidance.

I am so proud and honored to have Will on my side as my trainer…but I really consider him a good friend as well!
